Golf Socks
Here you will find golf socks for women and men, designed to provide comfort and a good fit during long days on the golf course. Golf socks are often moisture-wicking, breathable and designed to stay securely in place inside golf shoes while walking and swinging. Choose from different materials, cuff lengths and styles for playing golf in both warm and cool weather.
What makes golf socks different?
Golf socks are designed to work with golf shoes and provide comfort during many hours of walking and movement. During a round of golf, you often walk long distances while your feet experience different types of pressure as you stand, walk and rotate during the golf swing. That is why fit, moisture management and comfort are important features of golf socks.
Many styles feature an anatomical fit, elastic arch support and reinforced or softly cushioned areas under the heel and forefoot. These features can provide a more comfortable feel inside golf shoes and reduce the risk of socks slipping, bunching up or rubbing during your round.
Why should you wear dedicated golf socks?
A round of golf often involves several hours of activity, whether you play nine or eighteen holes. Golf socks are designed to provide a comfortable feel inside golf shoes during both walking and playing.
- Moisture management: Performance fabrics help move sweat away from the skin, contributing to a drier feel inside golf shoes.
- Breathability: Breathable fabrics and ventilated knit zones can help release excess heat on warm days on the golf course.
- Secure fit: A flexible construction helps the socks stay in place while walking and swinging.
- Comfort during long rounds: Some styles feature soft cushioning under the heel and forefoot for a more comfortable feel during hours of walking.
- Reduced risk of rubbing: A good fit and soft toe seams can help reduce friction between the foot, sock and golf shoe.
What is the best material for golf socks?
The best material depends on the temperature, how much you sweat and the type of golf shoes you wear. Many golf socks are made from technical fabrics or material blends that combine moisture management, durability and a flexible fit.
- Synthetic materials: Polyester and polyamide are often used to provide durability, breathability and effective moisture management.
- Merino wool: Has temperature-regulating properties and can be a good option for cooler rounds of golf.
- Elastane: Adds stretch and helps the socks stay securely around the foot while walking and during the golf swing.
Regular cotton socks can retain more moisture and dry more slowly than many performance fabrics. During long rounds of golf, especially in warm weather, golf socks made from synthetic fibres or wool blends can therefore be a more comfortable option.
Should golf socks be thin or cushioned?
Thin golf socks often work well in golf shoes with a snugger fit and on warm days when breathability is particularly important. They take up less space inside the shoes and can provide a lightweight, comfortable feel around the foot.
Golf socks with cushioning under the heel and forefoot can be a good choice if you walk long rounds and want a softer feel underfoot. Keep in mind that overly thick socks can make golf shoes feel tight and create unnecessary pressure. The most important thing is that your socks work well with the fit of your golf shoes.
Which golf socks are suitable for summer and winter?
During summer, thin and breathable golf socks with good moisture-wicking properties can help your feet feel drier and more comfortable. When playing golf in spring and autumn, slightly thicker socks or styles containing merino wool can provide a more comfortable temperature inside your shoes.
On cold and damp days, it is important to choose both socks and golf shoes according to the weather. Wool blends can provide warmth, but if thicker socks make your golf shoes too tight, this can reduce comfort.
How do you choose the right golf socks?
Consider how your golf shoes fit, how long your rounds usually are and the weather conditions you normally play in. Choose the correct size and make sure the socks fit comfortably without slipping, twisting or bunching up. If you do a lot of walking on the golf course, styles with soft cushioning underfoot may be worth trying.
Cuff length is largely a matter of personal preference. Short golf socks can feel airy during summer, while higher cuffs provide more coverage around the ankles and legs.
Oliver's tips - How to avoid rubbing and tired feet on the golf course
Oliver works as a videographer at Minfot and plays golf himself. His advice for a more comfortable round is to consider how your golf socks work together with your golf shoes, especially when walking 18 holes.
Oliver's tips: "When you walk a full round of golf, it is important that your socks fit well from the first hole to the last. I think it is particularly important that they do not slip down or bunch up inside your golf shoes, as this can start to cause rubbing after several hours of walking. I prefer socks that wick away moisture and stay securely in place around the foot. If there is enough room inside your golf shoes, a little extra cushioning under the heel and forefoot can also feel comfortable, especially when walking 18 holes."
A useful tip is to try your golf socks together with your golf shoes before playing a longer round. The socks should fit comfortably without creating extra pressure over the toes or forefoot.
