Compression socks
Compression socks, also known as support socks, are designed to provide graduated pressure on the legs and feet. The pressure is strongest at the ankle and gradually decreases upward, helping to stimulate blood circulation and reduce the feeling of tired, heavy, and swollen legs.
With us, you’ll find compression socks for women and men in several different styles, sizes, and materials, making it easy to find the right pair for you. Whether you sit still for long periods, spend a lot of time standing and walking at work, or live an active lifestyle, our compression socks provide comfort, support, and a lighter feeling in your legs.
When should you use compression socks?
Compression socks are used for many different reasons. They are a popular choice for those who:
- Experience tired or heavy legs
- Have swelling in the feet and legs
- Stand or sit a lot during the workday
- Travel frequently, for example during flights or long car journeys
- Want to improve circulation preventively
By supporting blood flow in the legs, compression socks can both relieve existing discomfort and help prevent new issues.
Compression levels – what should you choose?
Compression socks are available in different compression levels, where the pressure is measured in mmHg.
For most people, class 1 compression socks (15–21 mmHg) are sufficient. They provide comfortable support and are suitable for everyday use as well as for tired or swollen legs. If you need more support, class 2 compression socks (23–32 mmHg) may be an option, but these should only be used following medical advice. For those who prefer lighter support, there are also compression socks with mild compression.
“Compression socks are measured in mmHg, which indicates how much pressure the sock provides. For most people, class 1 (15–21 mmHg) is enough to improve blood circulation and reduce leg fatigue.” – Cajsa, licensed physiotherapist
Did you know that our licensed physiotherapist Cajsa is also involved in developing our own range of compression socks? This ensures that every model is designed with a focus on functionality, comfort, and fit.
Different types of compression socks
There are several different types of compression socks depending on their intended use:
- Ankle compression socks: For those who prefer shorter compression socks
- Class 1 and class 2 compression socks: Different levels of compression
- Compression socks with mild compression: For lighter support
- Wide compression socks: For those with wider calves who need extra room in the leg
- Compression socks for pregnancy: Developed to provide support during and after pregnancy
- Travel and flight socks: For prolonged sitting over longer periods
- Compression tights and stay-ups: For full coverage or more discreet use
- Open-toe compression socks: For those who prefer to keep their toes free
By choosing the right model, you can adapt the support to your everyday life and your needs.
Which material should I choose?
Compression socks are available in several different materials, ranging from natural fibers to more technical fabrics. The choice of material affects both comfort and functionality, allowing you to wear compression socks all year round, whether you need warmth, ventilation, or effective moisture management.
Common materials used in compression socks
Did you know that compression socks cannot be made from, for example, 100% cotton or bamboo alone? This is because the materials need to be combined with elastane and polyamide to provide graduated compression and maintain their shape. Below, you can read more about some common materials used in compression socks.
- Cotton is soft and gentle on the skin and feels airy and comfortable to wear. It is suitable for everyday use, work, and long flights.
- Bamboo is a soft and flexible material with naturally effective moisture-wicking properties. It often provides a cool and comfortable feeling and is appreciated by many during long workdays or in warmer climates.
- Wool and merino wool help regulate temperature and naturally adapt to changing conditions, making them popular materials for compression socks used during winter, hiking, and activities in colder weather.
- Sports materials & technical fibers: Technical materials such as Coolmax, lyocell, and other sports fibers are designed for activity and exercise. They effectively transport moisture away and help keep the feet dry during workouts and running.
- Nylon & elastane: Nylon and elastane provide a smooth, flexible, and elastic feel. This material combination is often used in thinner and skin-colored compression socks because it offers a discreet appearance and a more elegant feel while ensuring even compression across the leg. Suitable for everyday wear, travel, special occasions, or for those who prefer discreet compression socks.
How do you choose the right size?
You choose the size of your compression socks based on your ankle and calf measurements. Measure the circumference in the morning before your legs have had a chance to swell and use your measurements together with the size guide provided for each compression sock.
